GitHub Enhances VS Code with Model Context Protocol (MCP) for GitHub Copilot
GitHub has rolled out general availability for Model Context Protocol (MCP) in Visual Studio Code, significantly upgrading GitHub Copilot's functionality. The integration allows developers to connect external tools and data sources, enabling a more context-aware coding experience.
With VS Code version 1.102, MCP support has moved from preview to full production. Developers can now integrate custom tools, APIs, and resources via MCP servers, streamlining workflows and boosting productivity. Enterprise administrators must activate the new policy to enable MCP access, replacing the previous Editor Preview Features policy.
